Germany’s CrossCulture Fellowship 2027 Is Open: Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to finally chase an international opportunity, this might be it.

The CrossCulture Programme (CCP), run by Germany’s Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa), is accepting applications for 2027. It’s a funded stay of two to three months in Germany, and most of the costs are covered. The deadline is December 8, 2026, so you have a few weeks. That’s enough time to apply well, but not enough to put it off.

What Is the CrossCulture Programme?

CCP is an exchange for people who already work or volunteer in their communities. It isn’t a university course or a tourist trip. Fellows spend time with organizations in Germany, learn how things are done there, share how things are done at home, and come back with new skills and a wider network.

The programme is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. It supports roughly 50 to 60 professionals and volunteers each year from more than 40 countries, so the pool of fellows is genuinely international.

What You Get

This is where the fellowship stands out. According to the announcement, the package includes:

  • 2 to 3 months in Germany
  • A monthly stipend of €650 for daily expenses
  • Round-trip airfare
  • Free accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Visa support

Very few opportunities cover flights, housing, insurance and a stipend all at once. If you’ve ever been put off by the cost of going abroad, that’s a big part of why this one is worth a look.

Who Can Apply?

The basic requirements are:

  • You are 23 or older at the time of application
  • You have at least two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Your English is good enough to work and communicate in
  • You are not currently a student (full-time students are generally excluded)

Experience counts whether it’s paid or unpaid. If you’ve spent two years organizing community projects, running youth programmes or working in an NGO, you may qualify even without a traditional job title.

One more thing: CCP runs separate calls for different countries, and not every country is included every year. Before you start, pick your country’s call on the portal and read its specific criteria.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the official application portal: applications-ccp.ifa.de/job-offers
  2. Choose the call that matches your country.
  3. Gather your documents. These usually include an English CV and a recommendation letter from a supervisor, and the call page lists any others.
  4. Fill in the form and submit it before December 8, 2026.

A Few Tips Before You Hit Submit

Write it yourself. The ifa asks applicants to complete the form in person without AI tools. They want to hear you, so write in your own words, even if your English isn’t perfect.

Be specific about your work. “I worked with youth” says little. “I ran a weekly mentoring group for 40 teenagers for three years” tells them something.

Explain why Germany and why now. Describe what you want to learn and how you’ll use it when you get home. Selection committees remember applicants who can answer that clearly.

Ask your recommender early. A good letter from a supervisor takes time, and people get busy in December.

Don’t wait for the last day. Portals slow down near deadlines, and a rushed application usually reads like one.

Final Thoughts

Opportunities like this don’t come around often, and the people who get them are usually the ones who applied. You don’t need to be perfect, just prepared and honest about what you’ve done.

If you know someone who has been looking for a way to go abroad, save this post and send it to them. It could be the nudge they need.
