Role overview
Breakmark is seeking a Field CTO for Australia to lead technical strategy and build the regional technical organisation for a fast-growing enterprise AI company. The company develops infrastructure enabling large enterprises to design, deploy, and manage AI agents across complex business workflows, supporting customer and employee interactions through multiple channels in any language or market. This role blends technical leadership, customer-facing executive responsibilities, and hands-on engineering work.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with enterprise customers throughout the sales process, leading technical discovery, product demonstrations, architecture reviews, and integration discussions.
- Build integrations, prototypes, and production-ready solutions while setting engineering standards around scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing regional engineering and solutions organisation, establishing best practices across architecture, delivery, and customer success.
- Lead enterprise implementations from solution design through deployment, ensuring AI solutions operate reliably in production environments.
- Incorporate customer feedback into product and engineering roadmaps and adapt solutions to regional market needs.
- Represent the technical organisation across customers, partners, and internal stakeholders, balancing discussions between engineers and executive leadership.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on backend engineering experience and 5+ years leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Demonstrated experience building technical organisations from the ground up with proven ownership of production systems at scale.
- Prior startup founder experience is required.
- Strong understanding of AI, large language models, and modern AI infrastructure, with experience delivering AI-powered products into production highly desirable.
- Ability to discuss architecture with engineers and strategy with executive leadership while balancing hands-on execution with long-term technical vision.
- Excellent English communication skills and fluency or native proficiency in the local market language.
- High ownership mindset with bias for action, thriving in fast-moving and ambiguous environments.
