Role overview

Ashby is seeking a Design Engineer to work on product design and implementation at significant scale. This role combines excellence in both design and engineering, requiring you to tackle complex design challenges while writing production code. You’ll work on a product used by over 100,000 weekly active users, including customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake.

Key responsibilities

Address major design problems across the product, from mobile web experiences to complex data visualization challenges.
Contribute to and expand the in-house design system by building flexible, composable components that other engineers use to create consistent interfaces.
Collaborate with Product Engineers to improve their designs, refining information hierarchy, visual consistency, and usability based on customer feedback.
Implement your designs into polished, production-ready UI using the design system.
Gather customer feedback and iterate on designs based on real user needs and business priorities.
Set and maintain the visual design standard for the product while pushing it forward with each new feature or redesign.

Requirements

At least 2 years of continuous professional experience as either a designer or engineer.
Good proficiency in both design and engineering disciplines, with exceptional proficiency in whichever you practice full-time.
Demonstrated experience designing products and shipping code to hundreds of users, whether through professional work or side projects.
Excellent visual design taste and the ability to execute polished interfaces.
Comfort shipping work quickly and iterating based on user feedback rather than waiting for perfection.
Collaborative approach to problem-solving and willingness to help teammates improve their design work.
