Role overview

Scale is seeking an Infrastructure Software Engineer to join the Apps Platform Infrastructure team in London. You will design and expand the platform’s deployment and observability capabilities across multiple cloud providers and on-premises environments, serving both internal teams and customer-managed deployments. Scale builds reliable AI systems and data technologies used by leading enterprises and government organizations worldwide.

Key responsibilities

Expand the platform’s deployment footprint to support on-premise, all major cloud platforms, and additional infrastructure environments.
Ensure deployments are fast, secure, and reproducible across all supported cloud service providers and on-premises infrastructure.
Enhance platform observability so that distributed infrastructure teams can effectively operate and monitor customer deployments.
Work directly with internal platform deployment teams to understand their requirements, troubleshoot problems, and build tools tailored to their needs.
Respond to production incidents with urgency, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
Develop and maintain a product roadmap for deployment and observability features.
Lead architecture reviews and own projects end-to-end, from initial design through deployment, in cross-functional team settings.

Requirements

At least five years of experience designing and deploying enterprise and public sector solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, and on-premises environments.
Deep expertise in infrastructure design, including networking engineering, VPNs, load balancers, and firewall configuration.
Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, containerization, and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker.
Comprehensive understanding of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery principles using GitHub Actions or CircleCI.
Experience implementing GitOps-style deployments with a demonstrated ability to maintain consistent, repeatable deployment processes.
Strong debugging capabilities and comfort navigating performance and security trade-offs in production systems.
Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and context-switch between reactive incident response and proactive product development.
