Role overview

BEUMER Group is seeking a Lower-Level Controls Specialist to support the baggage handling system at Calgary International Airport. In this role, you will serve as a technical expert responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all operational technology hardware, software, and control systems that power the baggage handling system. Your work will directly improve system efficiency, uptime, and performance through calibration, maintenance, and strategic upgrades to electrical and control equipment.

Key responsibilities

Perform troubleshooting and execute preventive and corrective maintenance on all PLC and controls systems associated with the baggage handling system.
Manage network connections that support the baggage handling system infrastructure.
Develop and implement operational procedures for all operational technology activities to ensure smooth and efficient system performance.
Conduct comprehensive testing of software and firmware updates to verify system integrity and proper functionality.
Monitor PLC and Field-Bus systems continuously, troubleshooting issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
Work collaboratively with the Hotline team to resolve system issues within required timeframes.
Set up, configure, and deploy software products to ensure they function correctly within the baggage handling environment.
Develop and maintain backup protocols to protect against data loss and system failures.
Be available for on-site response after hours when baggage handling system disruptions occur.

Requirements

Hold a two or four-year college degree in a technical field.
Possess three to five years of professional experience in lower-level controls within the industrial automation industry.
Demonstrate proficiency in PLC programming and SCADA programming.
Have the ability to read and interpret functional block diagrams accurately.
Possess knowledge of industrial networks such as Ethernet or PROFINET protocols.
Understand PLC hardware components, I/O devices, variable frequency drives, and motion control systems.
Hold certification from Siemens, Rockwell, or Allen Bradley.
Display excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in technical environments.
Be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and maintaining composure in fast-paced, high-pressure settings.
Be able to obtain and maintain airport security clearance as required.
