Role overview

Lightspeed is seeking an experienced Payments Risk Analyst II to join its Global Risk team in Belfast. This role focuses on managing complex risk assessments and operational improvements within the payments domain. You will work independently on less-defined cases while contributing to broader team initiatives, building on foundational analyst skills with expanded scope and judgment.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor daily activity across multiple risk queues and manage complex transaction, merchant, onboarding, fraud, credit, and compliance cases with end-to-end ownership.
  • Apply company policies, partner requirements, and restricted-product guidelines to less-defined reviews while weighing competing factors and making sound decisions with limited information.
  • Use reports, risk signals, case trends, and operational data to identify emerging threats, suspicious activity, and opportunities for proactive risk mitigation.
  • Balance portfolio protection and chargeback risk by assessing chargeback likelihood and the merchant’s ability to repay.
  • Identify recurring issues, control gaps, and risk patterns across tools and workflows, then recommend practical improvements to processes and playbooks.
  • Produce clear case summaries, findings, and decision rationale while maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to team knowledge materials.
  • Lead customer communications and collaborate with Support, Merchant Services, Product, and other teams to resolve shared problems and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in payments, fraud, credit risk, compliance, or financial services operations.
  • Exposure to structured workflows, case management systems, queues, or service-level targets.
  • Experience working with written procedures and maintaining accurate records in a structured environment.
  • Knowledge of Card Scheme rules and regulations and a thorough understanding of chargeback flow, processes, and risk timeframes.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets and demonstrated analytic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage increasingly complex case work with minimal direction and make independent decisions based on available information.
  • Capability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
