Role overview

Scale is seeking a Public Sector Lead to build and own the company’s commercial business across UK civilian central government. Scale develops AI systems and applications for high-stakes decisions, working with leading organisations globally. This role is about establishing Scale’s presence in UK government from the ground up, starting with departments where near-term opportunity is strongest: HMRC, DWP, and NHS.

Key responsibilities

Own the commercial plan and pipeline for UK civilian central government, managing both strategy and execution.
Find, shape, and close deals yourself throughout the entire cycle, from initial conversations through to contract signature and into delivery phases.
Leverage existing relationships across major departments to identify and advance opportunities.
Navigate public sector procurement routes, including frameworks and tenders, to determine the most effective path to market.
Serve as a credible partner to senior civil servants, translating departmental needs into deliverable solutions that Scale can execute.
Maintain close collaboration with product and delivery teams to ensure alignment between what is sold and what is built.
Build and lead a growing team over time, while contributing to the wider UK public sector strategy alongside the UK Public Sector Lead.

Requirements

Proven experience selling and delivering technology or transformation work to UK civilian central government, either as a vendor or from within government.
Track record of building something new from scratch, such as a new vertical, territory, or product launch.
Deep knowledge of at least one major department (such as HMRC, DWP, or NHS) and understanding of how it makes purchasing decisions.
Strong grasp of public sector procurement processes, including frameworks, tenders, and multi-stakeholder buying cycles.
Demonstrated ability to open doors, manage complex sales pursuits, and own outcomes.
Established relationships with senior people across government departments.
Comfort working effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
