Senior Cyber Security Engineer
Role overview
Checkout.com processes over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers, powering payments for companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you will be a hands-on practitioner at the core of the Cyber Security team, translating security standards and detection strategies into reliable operational practice. This is a delivery-focused position where you will spend time in tooling, tickets, and technical detail to enhance security operations and ensure findings move through to closure.
Key responsibilities
- Support and enhance security tooling including SIEM, EDR, DLP, and vulnerability management platforms through configuration, tuning, and daily maintenance.
- Build and improve operational procedures, runbooks, and playbooks to ensure consistent and repeatable team response to security events.
- Triage and handle security alerts, escalate high-severity events, and contribute to incident response efforts under the direction of senior engineers.
- Track, coordinate, and drive penetration test and vulnerability findings through to remediation across engineering teams, maintaining ownership and closure status.
- Maintain accuracy and hygiene of security data asset inventories, finding trackers, and remediation records.
- Support detection deployment and validation, providing operational feedback to reduce alert noise and fatigue.
- Develop scripts and automation to eliminate manual toil from recurring operational tasks and produce clear reporting on findings, remediation progress, and tooling health.
Requirements
- At least five years of hands-on experience in Security Operations, a Security Operations Center (SOC), or equivalent operational security role.
- Practical experience operating modern security tooling such as SIEM platforms like Sentinel, Data Loss Prevention tools, EDR, and vulnerability management systems.
- Solid understanding of security operations workflows including alert triage, incident handling, and vulnerability and finding remediation lifecycles.
- Comfort with scripting to support automation and tooling, such as Python or KQL.
- Experience coordinating remediation efforts across multiple engineering or platform teams and driving work to closure.
- Working knowledge of cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP, and how security operations apply across cloud and SaaS services.
- Familiarity with common frameworks and standards such as PCI DSS, NIST CSF, SOC 2, ISO 27001, CIS Benchmarks, and MITRE ATT&CK.
