Role overview

Join Xero’s AI Enablement team as a Senior Engineer helping the broader engineering organisation work effectively with AI. You’ll own projects end-to-end, from early experimentation through production, building the platforms and tooling that enable engineers across the company to leverage AI technologies.

Key responsibilities

Build and maintain an internal skills marketplace and distribution platform for AI tools used across Xero’s engineering teams.
Develop guidance and best practices for writing agent skills, including agents designed for remediation tasks.
Collaborate directly with vendors including AWS, Microsoft and GitHub on early-access technology not yet publicly available.
Own the full lifecycle of projects, including writing runbooks, establishing monitoring systems and planning rollback strategies to ensure reliability in production.
Shape the technical direction of AI-related tools and platforms within the engineering organisation.
Guide and challenge a team that is early in its AI journey, helping them develop capability and confidence.

Requirements

Hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with C#, .NET and AWS, though experience with other stacks is welcome as strong engineers adapt to new technologies.
Proven track record building internal tools or platforms that other engineers genuinely relied upon.
Strong production discipline with experience writing runbooks, setting up monitoring and planning rollback procedures before deploying to live environments.
Clear communication skills and the ability to bring people along with ideas rather than working in isolation.
Genuine curiosity about AI-native tools and coding agents, with awareness of trends in AI engineering.
Ability to challenge decisions directly and respectfully, and a commitment to learning new concepts in a structured, quality-focused manner.
