Role overview

Analog is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of ground robots and robotic manipulators. You will own the complete design lifecycle from initial concept through production, ensuring systems perform reliably through thousands of real-world deployments. This role requires collaboration with electrical, firmware, controls and software teams to transform designs into machines that operate dependably in challenging environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and own the mechanical architecture of mobile robot platforms and robotic arms, including chassis, drivetrain, joints, end effectors and enclosures.
  • Develop precision mechanisms and load-bearing structures in CAD while balancing stiffness, mass, backlash, serviceability and cost considerations.
  • Select and integrate motors, gearboxes, harmonic drives, belts, ball screws, bearings and brakes to meet torque, speed and stiffness requirements based on real duty cycles.
  • Conduct finite element analysis on structures and failure mode analysis on mechanisms, using results to drive design improvements rather than validate existing solutions.
  • Build and run test rigs to validate life, fatigue, shock, vibration, ingress protection and accuracy, then investigate mechanical failures found in lab or field environments.
  • Move rapidly from sketch to working prototype using in-house machining, 3D printing and rapid fabrication techniques.
  • Produce complete drawing packages with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tolerance stack-ups, fit and finish specifications, bills of materials and assembly procedures.
  • Partner with suppliers and contract manufacturers on quoting, first article inspection, qualification and yield management across CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting and composite processes.
  • Set mechanical design standards and mentor junior engineers through design reviews, hands-on build work and test activities.

Requirements

  • Six to ten years of experience designing mechanical systems for robotics, automotive, aerospace, consumer hardware or industrial automation applications.
  • Demonstrated ownership of mechanisms from concept phase through prototype, qualification and volume production.
  • Strong foundation in machine design fundamentals including stress analysis, fatigue, kinematics, bearing and gear selection, and tolerance analysis.
  • Expert proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, Creo or Onshape, with disciplined product data management and revision control practices.
  • Practical finite element analysis experience and sound judgment about when analytical calculations provide better answers than simulation.
  • Fluency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing with a track record of producing drawings that manufacturers can build accurately without clarification.
  • Deep hands-on capability in laboratory and shop environments including assembly, machining, fixturing, instrumentation and testing.
  • Experience designing systems for environmental robustness including ingress protection, dust, heat, vibration and transport durability.
  • Mechanical Engineering, Robotics or equivalent degree combined with demonstrated professional experience.

What makes this role worth considering

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Abu Dhabi where you will work alongside engineers, artists and researchers who apply rigorous hardware standards to create meaningful experiences. You will have the opportunity to design and deploy machines that operate in real-world conditions where reliability is non-negotiable, taking ownership of systems from concept through field deployment.
