Role overview
Kepler Communications is seeking a Senior Satellite Systems Designer to serve as a platform architect and technical leader across multiple satellite and space-system programs. The company operates the first commercial optical data relay constellation with 33 satellites launched to date, delivering real-time on-orbit connectivity for critical missions and supporting advanced on-orbit compute and hosted payload capabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical work across multiple satellite programs, delivering critical subsystems, system-level work packages, verification campaigns, and technical deliverables.
- Contribute across the full lifecycle of space systems, including requirements definition, architecture development, design, integration, verification, commissioning, and operations.
- Establish technical clarity on new projects, integrate quickly into existing programs, and direct engineering execution in complex areas involving requirements, interfaces, risks, and trade-offs.
- Bridge multiple engineering disciplines to ensure requirements are understood, interfaces are controlled, and risks remain visible throughout program execution.
- Make technical decisions that balance mission performance, cost, schedule, reliability, and operational needs.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers while maintaining autonomy in your technical domain and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply systems engineering judgment to right-size processes according to project maturity and keep teams aligned on delivery targets.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a systems engineer across multiple lifecycle phases of satellite or space systems programs.
- Proven ability to operate independently while mentoring other engineers and leading cross-disciplinary technical teams.
- Strong communication skills with internal teams and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Experience managing requirements, interfaces, risks, and technical trade-offs in complex engineering environments.
- Track record of delivering high-impact technical outcomes in multi-program settings with competing priorities.
