Role overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Lean Store team, you will own critical financial infrastructure that processes millions in transactions and underpins regulatory compliance and revenue operations. Lean is the leading financial infrastructure provider in the Middle East, trusted by over 350 clients including Binance, Careem, and Etisalat, and backed by leading investors including General Catalyst and Sequoia.

Key responsibilities

Build and maintain core ledger functionality that supports SwiftX compliance use cases and regulatory requirements for ADGM scaling.
Own the billing system end-to-end, managing its reliability, maintenance, and ongoing evolution.
Deliver on the Mal integration, a strategically prioritized new integration with direct revenue impact.
Manage the payouts infrastructure, including incident response, client features, and data center-related work while ensuring SLA adherence on live revenue streams.
Drive proactive improvements in stability, performance, and scalability across the squad’s systems.
Provide design-level code reviews, contribute to technical refinement, and author clear technical specifications.

Requirements

Strong backend engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, microservices, and REST APIs.
Production experience implementing Kafka for event-driven systems.
Proficiency with PostgreSQL and Redis at the data layer.
Familiarity with Maven, Docker, and Jenkins for build and delivery processes.
Production experience with Prometheus and Grafana for observability and monitoring.
Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude in day-to-day development work.
Demonstrated ability to own a domain independently, drive design decisions, and write high-quality, secure, fully tested code with solid monitoring and alerting.
Strong communication skills to explain technical risk to both engineering and leadership audiences, with a reliable track record of meeting commitments and unblocking teams.
