Role overview
Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial innovator serving over 4 million Canadians with more than $155 billion in assets under administration, is seeking a Staff Product Manager to lead its Connectivity Platform. This role owns two interconnected capabilities: the infrastructure enabling clients to securely link external bank and brokerage accounts to Wealthsimple, and the Public API that allows clients and partners to access Wealthsimple financial data externally. You will define how Wealthsimple connects to the broader financial ecosystem and set the strategy for a platform that powers experiences across the entire product organization.
Key responsibilities
- Establish long-term connectivity strategy and vision for how Wealthsimple integrates with external financial institutions, determining which capabilities to build internally, which to source from partners, and where differentiated value can be created.
- Own the end-to-end experience for connecting external bank and brokerage accounts, including automated linking, manual recovery flows, and all aspects of client interaction from institution selection through authentication and error handling.
- Improve connection success rates and reliability across financial institutions by developing routing strategies that optimize which connector handles each institution and flow.
- Drive reliability and self-healing capabilities so connections detect and recover from failures without manual intervention.
- Manage vendor relationships and product integrations with connectivity partners such as Plaid and Flinks, while deciding the scope of Wealthsimple’s own in-house connector.
- Own the Public API strategy and roadmap, making it safe and straightforward for clients to grant permission for their financial data to external products and services they choose.
- Balance growth and conversion metrics against fraud exposure and operational load through deliberate tradeoffs with risk and operations partners.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience owning a platform, API, developer product or integrations platform with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes such as improved conversion, success rates or reliability.
- Technical depth sufficient to collaborate closely with engineers on APIs, authentication systems, data models, routing logic and platform architecture.
- Track record of successfully delivering products through external vendors or partners whose roadmaps you do not control, including making sound build versus buy decisions and holding partners accountable.
- Proven ability to treat reliability as product work, including designing error taxonomies, failure recovery mechanisms, observability practices and understanding operational load implications.
- Experience balancing growth objectives against fraud, risk and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical capabilities and comfort using data to measure reliability, conversion, coverage and overall product performance, including establishing measurement frameworks where they do not yet exist.
- Excellent cross-functional leadership skills working with Engineering, Design, Security, Legal, Compliance, Operations and external partners, with ability to simplify complex systems rather than adding layers of complexity.
What makes this role worth considering
This is a platform role with significant direct client impact, requiring you to be equally fluent in technical systems like APIs and data models as you are in designing user experiences and managing external partnerships. You will work on one of the highest-leverage surfaces in the company, directly enabling product teams across Wealthsimple to build on external financial data. The role is based remotely within Canada and offers the opportunity to shape how Wealthsimple and the broader financial industry move toward open banking principles.
