The team builds infrastructure that enables internal teams to create reliable, scalable AI-powered streaming and batch data applications. You will design and lead the development of an event streaming platform serving hundreds of teams and petabyte-level data volumes.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build a continuously available large-scale event streaming platform using Kafka and Flink technologies.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic guidance to engineers and engineering managers across the organisation.
  • Develop tooling, modules, SDKs, and domain-specific languages that make it easy for other teams to publish data and deploy streaming applications on the platform.
  • Implement infrastructure that enables end users to build, host, monitor, and deploy their own streaming applications independently.
  • Offer technical consultation across the organisation to drive platform adoption and enable event-driven use cases.
  • Translate requirements and architecture initiatives into executable action plans and implementations.
  • Provide hands-on support for event-based systems, including incident response and root cause analysis.

Requirements

  • Strong background in data systems with proven experience implementing and owning event streaming platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with stream processing technologies, ideally Kafka, and demonstrated ability to design and implement stream processing applications with Flink.
  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies such as AWS, including services like MSK, S3, Lambda, ECS, and SNS.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, container deployment and management, and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines and working with SQL databases.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one of Java or Python.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with a proven track record of influencing engineering organisations.
