Role overview

Ashby is seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing team that combines product design excellence with strong engineering capabilities. This role works closely with leadership to solve complex design challenges across a recruiting platform used by over 100,000 weekly active users, including companies like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake.

Key responsibilities

Design and implement solutions to significant product challenges, balancing visual polish with technical feasibility.
Contribute to and enhance the in-house design system, creating flexible and composable components that enable other engineers to build consistent user experiences.
Collaborate with Product Engineers to improve design implementations, including information hierarchy, usability, and visual coherence across features.
Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to gather feedback and refine designs through iterative shipping and testing.
Redesign or build features by conducting user conversations, creating wireframes, implementing designs, and iterating based on real-world usage.
Maintain high standards for visual design while adapting to the needs of users ranging from first-time users to power users customizing complex workflows.

Requirements

Minimum of two years of continuous professional experience as a designer or engineer.
Good proficiency in both design and engineering, with exceptional proficiency in whichever discipline you practice full-time.
Demonstrated experience designing products and shipping code to hundreds of users, whether through professional work or side projects.
Strong visual design taste and execution ability.
Comfort working in a fast-shipping environment where iteration and user feedback drive refinement over perfect pre-release implementation.
Ability to work independently on design and technical details without requiring extensive process or project management structure.
