As a Frontier Data Strategist at Scale AI, you will shape data strategy for next-generation AI models at the world’s leading AI labs. This role bridges frontier research and Scale’s product roadmap, positioning you to influence both customer research directions and internal product priorities at a critical moment in AI development.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with senior research stakeholders at frontier AI labs, including research leads and heads of post-training, serving as a technical thought partner on their research roadmaps.
  • Establish comprehensive data strategies for assigned accounts by identifying needs across research areas, recognizing major opportunities, and planning multi-program engagement with Scale.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in designing complex and novel human-data programs, including initiatives without precedent at Scale.
  • Represent customer needs to Scale’s AI Product Managers and ML Research teams, shaping the product roadmap and making tradeoff decisions between customer requirements and Scale’s capabilities.
  • Bring insights from frontier research—including emerging data needs, research directions, and capability gaps—to Scale leadership to inform strategy and investment decisions.
  • Own the complete opportunity pipeline for your accounts, leading scoping, forecasting, and pricing activities with internal teams, and managing the transition to live programs.
  • Mentor other Frontier Data Strategists, establish standards for program design and customer engagement, and develop team playbooks and processes.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in a technical AI or ML role, such as ML engineering, research, applied science, technical product management, or post-training data work.
  • Deep knowledge of the LLM training lifecycle, particularly post-training methods including supervised fine-tuning, preference data, reward modeling, reinforcement learning environments, and agentic training.
  • Demonstrated track record of building relationships with senior technical stakeholders and influencing their direction through technical substance and insight.
  • Evidence of successfully shipping ambiguous, high-stakes technical programs from conception through delivery.
  • Experience influencing product or research roadmaps without holding direct authority.
  • Ability to read ML research papers, form informed opinions on how data could improve capabilities, and defend those opinions to researchers.
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another quantitative field.

What makes this role worth considering

You’ll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and product strategy, directly influencing how the world’s leading AI labs develop their models.
