Role overview
Lightspeed’s Data Office is seeking a senior analytics engineer to design and manage the data models that drive financial performance, go-to-market activities, and product analysis decisions. You will work across Finance, Revenue Ops, Marketing, and Product teams to establish the analytical foundations that guide the company’s operations.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop data models supporting financial reporting, go-to-market analysis, and product and operations insights.
- Transform ambiguous business requirements from Finance, Revenue Ops, Marketing, and Product teams into clearly defined technical solutions with effort estimates.
- Collaborate within a Hub & Spoke architecture, partnering with upstream data owners, Looker/LookML developers, and business pods across Retail, Hospitality, and Operations to build end-to-end functional models.
- Treat documentation as a core deliverable, including column descriptions, model contracts, and architectural notes that support both human review and AI-assisted workflows.
- Diagnose root causes and implement systemic corrections rather than temporary fixes.
- Ensure end-to-end pipeline health through proactive monitoring, incident response leadership, and early risk identification.
- Coach junior engineers through code reviews and technical sessions, and establish excellence standards.
Requirements
- Advanced SQL proficiency including query performance optimization, maintainable code, and advanced analytical techniques such as window functions.
- Proven experience designing dimensional models on modern cloud data warehouses like BigQuery or Snowflake, including partitioning, incremental models, and performance optimization.
- Practical experience modeling SaaS, CRM, and ERP source systems such as Salesforce or NetSuite, with clear understanding of how their object models translate to dimensional schemas.
- Production-level expertise in Dataform or dbt, including materializations, incremental strategies, snapshots, and macros.
- Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, clarifying needs and highlighting trade-offs.
- Security and compliance mindset with knowledge of GDPR, SOX, and data access controls as core responsibilities.
- Fluent English for working across a global team with employees and customers outside Quebec.
What makes this role worth considering
You will have genuine autonomy owning the reference data models used by company leadership. The technology stack is modern and well-maintained, including Dataform, BigQuery, Looker, and GitHub Actions, with continuous investment in developer experience. You will work alongside experienced colleagues who value quality and provide enriching code reviews in an environment where there is time to do things correctly.
