Role overview

Hootsuite is seeking a Junior Software Developer to design, build, test, and ship software that delivers value to customers. You will work on a small, agile team that continuously refines products based on feedback, taking ownership of the entire delivery lifecycle from beta releases to production-ready, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

Deliver low-complexity projects while adhering to coding standards, testing practices, and company guidelines for security, accessibility, and privacy.
Contribute to your team’s roadmap by asking questions, providing input, and promptly escalating identified risks and scope changes.
Participate actively in team activities, code reviews, and documentation while learning from peers and working toward team goals.
Troubleshoot issues independently for minor bugs and collaborate with senior team members to resolve more complex problems.
Work within a cross-functional team, building positive relationships and maintaining effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders.

Requirements

A degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent education or work experience, plus 1–2 years of software development and maintenance experience (including co-op terms and internships).
Experience with Java or a functional programming language.
Ability to learn and apply root cause analysis to identify and address bugs and outages, and to follow logging, monitoring, and debugging best practices.
Knowledge of basic security and compliance practices and familiarity with agile processes and continuous integration and delivery practices.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to participate in technical discussions and understand input from design and product teams.
