Role overview

This Lead Software Developer role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining efficient, scalable applications that handle high-throughput, performance-critical systems for a growing organization certified as a Great Place to Work.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for high-throughput, performance-critical, and scalable applications.
- Lead the development of scalable code, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts while taking ownership of complex, long-term projects and ensuring timely delivery.
- Independently identify key areas for architecture improvement and prepare proposals for implementing those enhancements.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and code reviews to maximize code quality and ensure best practices are followed.
- Collaborate with other development teams, product managers, and cross-functional partners on design and implementation of features across multiple products.
- Mentor other developers on the team and guide key stakeholders on execution choices, trade-offs, and technical direction.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical point of contact for customers, partners, and internal teams while documenting system design and architecture for clarity and maintainability.
- Present technical discussions and training at the department level and stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
- Participate in a 24×7 on-call rotating schedule if applicable.
Requirements
- Ten to twelve years of experience as a Software Developer using object-oriented programming to build scalable applications.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree with specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent working experience.
- Proven technical expertise in design, architecture, and optimizing databases such as MySQL, with hands-on experience in SQL Server and Postgres database design.
- Proficiency in programming languages including C#, JavaScript, and SQL, along with experience using Python and Google Compute Engine and Google BigQuery.
- Expert-level technical competence in design and architecture with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management capabilities to manage multiple fast-changing priorities simultaneously and work effectively under pressure in a flat organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to serve as a strong team player and mentor with an entrepreneurial mindset.
