Role overview

Geotab is a global IoT and connected transportation leader that processes billions of data points daily to help businesses manage fleets, improve safety, and reduce environmental impact. As a Lead Software Developer in the Reporting & AI Knowledge department, you will design and build high-performance, scalable applications while mentoring other developers and contributing to the team’s technical direction across multiple Canadian locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for high-throughput, performance-critical applications that serve production environments.
  • Lead the development of scalable code, prototypes, and proof-of-concept projects while taking ownership of complex, long-term initiatives and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for architecture improvements independently and prepare proposals for implementing enhancements across systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive code reviews and testing to ensure code quality meets best practices and maximize system reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, other development teams, and external stakeholders on feature design and implementation spanning multiple products.
  • Mentor other developers on the team, guide execution choices and trade-offs, and provide insights to leadership on team improvement and strategic direction.
  • Document system design and architecture clearly to support long-term maintainability and extensibility, and present technical discussions and training at the department level.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices, presenting findings to senior leadership for consideration.
  • Write complex, scalable, high-quality, and secure software in programming languages including C#, JavaScript, and SQL.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of professional experience developing and supporting production software using C# and .NET, with demonstrated expertise in object-oriented design.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree with specialization in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent working experience.
  • Proven expertise in design and architecture for large production systems, particularly those involving schedulers, report generation, templates, and dashboards.
  • Experience diagnosing production issues using logs and tools such as BigQuery and Sentry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Project management capabilities to manage multiple fast-changing priorities simultaneously in a flat organizational structure.
  • Mentoring experience and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a strong team player.
