Role overview
Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial services innovator, is seeking a Principal or Staff Product Manager for its Financial Risk team. The company serves over 4 million Canadians and administers more than $155 billion in assets across managed investing, trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, and payment products. In this platform product management role, you will lead the strategy and execution of systems that protect Wealthsimple and its clients from fraud while enabling secure, fast money movement across all major payment channels.
Key responsibilities
- Own the product vision and strategy for the Financial Risk platform, making critical tradeoffs between fraud prevention and user experience.
- Drive the roadmap for the Decision Platform, a real-time rules engine that evaluates fraud risk across withdrawals, deposits, e-transfers, crypto transactions, and cheque deposits.
- Build and enhance fraud investigation tooling and automations including case management workflows, alert deduplication, and data enrichment pipelines that improve fraud operations team efficiency.
- Define and evolve restriction and mitigation frameworks that determine appropriate responses to fraud signals such as account suspensions, withdrawal blocks, and spend restrictions.
- Operate as a platform PM by designing extensible APIs, decision schemas, and integration patterns that payment and money movement teams can reliably use as new products and payment rails launch.
- Partner with Fraud and Data Science teams on fraud model integration, rule development, and feedback loops that strengthen detection accuracy.
- Own key risk metrics including fraud loss rates, false positive rates, investigation cycle times, and decision latency, using data to guide prioritization decisions.
Requirements
- Minimum eight years of product management experience with substantial background in fraud, risk, or trust and safety, including demonstrated success building fraud prevention systems or risk decisioning platforms.
- Proven experience as a platform product manager designing systems for internal teams to consume, with ability to balance developer experience alongside business outcomes.
- Strong technical fluency in streaming architectures, workflow orchestration, and machine learning model integration, with capacity to reason through system design tradeoffs with engineering teams.
- Ability to operate effectively across a broad surface area spanning real-time decisioning, investigation tooling, restrictions infrastructure, and regulatory reporting.
- Experience working directly with fraud operations teams and understanding investigation workflows, alert triage, and analyst productivity tooling.
- Data-driven mindset using quantitative analysis to identify fraud patterns, measure intervention effectiveness, and prioritize work.
- Strong communication skills translating complex risk and platform concepts across engineering, operations, compliance, and executive audiences.
