Senior Developer, Payments

IT & Technology 🇨🇦 Remote - Canada 14 Sep 2026

Role overview

Practice Better is a comprehensive platform serving health and wellness practitioners across 70+ countries, offering electronic health records, practice management, and nutrition planning tools. As a Senior Developer on the Payments team, you will own the infrastructure that powers Practice Better Payments—the embedded billing, subscriptions, and payment processing system trusted by tens of thousands of practitioners worldwide. This is a foundational, revenue-critical part of the platform where you’ll collaborate across engineering, product, finance, support, and payment processors to build scalable payment capabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and scale payment processor integrations and payments infrastructure, including retry logic and reconciliation for products and services.
  • Establish architecture, patterns, and best practices for payments systems across the organization.
  • Build end-to-end user-facing features spanning database models, APIs, and UI components.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate velocity while maintaining code quality, security, and architectural integrity for payment-sensitive data.
  • Investigate payment fraud and disputed-charge incidents, providing support to legal and customer support teams, and resolve billing-related customer issues such as failed payments and invoicing questions.
  • Improve reliability, monitoring, and alerting for payment-critical systems to catch and respond to issues before they affect revenue or customers.
  • Lead incident response by triaging real-time issues, driving resolution, and communicating status to stakeholders.
  • Ensure payments systems meet PCI-DSS and other compliance standards in coordination with the information security and compliance team.
  • Translate business requirements from product, design, and finance teams into shipped features through close collaboration.

Requirements

  • Eight or more years of full-stack development experience in SaaS B2B environments with meaningful hands-on work in payments, billing, or fintech systems.
  • Direct experience integrating with payment processors, with Stripe integration strongly preferred, and demonstrated ability to build embedded payment experiences.
  • Working knowledge of payment processing fundamentals including PCI compliance, chargebacks and disputes, reconciliation, and fraud and risk basics.
  • Demonstrated daily use of AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, with ability to effectively prompt, guide, and critically evaluate AI-generated code for production standards, particularly for financial data systems.
  • Proven capability to own substantial features from concept through shipping as an individual engineer.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a focus on clarity and action.
  • In-depth .NET and C# skills required; Angular experience preferred, though React experience is also valued.
