Role overview

As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer with Xero’s Internal AI Accelerator Squad, you will embed yourself within internal business teams to design and operationalize agentic AI workflows. This role focuses on transforming how Xero operates by removing manual work and reshaping end-to-end business processes through intelligent automation. You will lead high-stakes AI agent projects from discovery through production while establishing the patterns and guardrails that enable the broader organization to adopt AI safely and effectively.

Key responsibilities

Design and iterate on AI agents and workflow orchestrations using tools such as Claude, Gemini, and MCP protocols.
Integrate AI systems with core enterprise platforms including Salesforce, Workday, Slack, and NetSuite.
Develop reusable automation patterns and shared templates that business teams across Xero can leverage.
Build evaluation and monitoring frameworks to measure AI agent performance and ensure safety in production workflows.
Partner with product owners and subject matter experts to translate complex business workflows into automated solutions.
Act as a technical evangelist and coach, elevating AI fluency across teams through pairing sessions, workshops, and clear communication.

Requirements

Extensive experience building and operating applications or automations in production environments, particularly with APIs and cloud infrastructure.
Demonstrated hands-on delivery of AI-driven solutions such as agents, copilots, or RAG systems using large language models like Claude or Gemini.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or TypeScript, with comfort navigating SDKs and webhooks.
Systems-thinking approach to design that prioritizes security, auditability, and controlled blast radius in agent implementations.
Track record of collaborating with non-technical stakeholders to translate business challenges into technical solution designs.
Natural coaching ability and enthusiasm for building AI literacy in colleagues through mentorship and clear communication.
