Role overview

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Retail DEX team, which manages the data and trading systems enabling millions of users to trade over 70 million tokens on major blockchains including Base and Solana through the main Coinbase app. You will build systems that bridge off-chain and onchain environments to create a seamless trading experience.

Key responsibilities

Integrate new blockchains, decentralized exchanges, and launchpads into the Coinbase app to expand access to onchain assets for traders.
Design and implement first-party smart contracts for onchain trading features such as DEX aggregation and advanced order types to enhance execution quality.
Scale real-time data pipelines to process 100,000+ messages per second with millisecond-latency handling of blockchain market data.
Optimize the end-to-end trading stack to deliver faster execution, optimal fills, and comprehensive asset coverage for DEX traders.
Lead development of agentic-first patterns and self-improving software systems that increase team velocity and productivity.

Requirements

At least 5 years of backend software engineering experience with proven success building and operating data systems or pipelines in production environments.
Hands-on experience designing data-intensive systems and integrating with large-scale infrastructure such as Kafka, Clickhouse, Starrocks, Temporal, and Redis.
Demonstrated experience designing and integrating with onchain smart contracts on EVM blockchains (Ethereum, Base) or Solana, with deep understanding of at least one virtual machine’s programming model.
Proven ability to build, iterate on, and improve agentic-first code repositories and software systems in production.
Experience using generative AI responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable workflow improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.
