Role overview

Zip is an AI-powered enterprise procurement platform trusted by major organizations including T-Mobile, OpenAI, and AMD. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Developer Platform team, you will design and build the scalable architecture, tooling, and processes that enable Zip’s engineering teams to deliver high-quality software at speed. You’ll serve in a technical leadership capacity, guiding the company’s approach to systems optimization, AI-assisted development, and engineering productivity across hundreds of engineers.

Key responsibilities

Lead initiatives to ensure new features meet performance and reliability standards by creating innovative frameworks that address unique testing challenges.
Accelerate software development across Zip by driving adoption of AI-driven tools, including IDEs, code review systems, and test generators.
Identify and eliminate friction throughout the development lifecycle, spanning development environments, testing patterns, CI pipelines, deployment processes, and feature flag conventions.
Improve codebase health and product quality by analyzing legacy patterns that need deprecation and building new frameworks to guide engineers toward better practices.
Enhance the customer experience by systematically improving platform-level frameworks and preventing issues before they reach users.
Develop and implement a new deployment and release process that supports daily deployments while protecting customers from bugs and incidents through canaries, traffic replay, and enterprise-customized feature bundling.

Requirements

At least four years of professional software engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field such as physics or mathematics.
Hands-on experience with modern CI tools including GitHub, GitLab, Buildkite, Jenkins, and Docker.
Strong attention to detail combined with a ownership-focused mindset.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose technical obstacles, identify sources of friction, and drive improvements in velocity and efficiency.
