Role overview

Vanta is a Trust Management Platform company that helps enterprises monitor, verify, and prove their security continuously. You will join the newly formed Program Structure and Trust group as a Staff Software Engineer, taking ownership of the architectural foundation that enables the platform to serve complex enterprise customers with diverse organizational requirements including multiple business units, data isolation, cross-cutting audits, and regulatory compliance needs.

Key responsibilities

Own the design and phased delivery across multiple quarters of Vanta’s enterprise organizational model, including support for hierarchical product lines, business units, isolated data access, and data residency requirements for EU and GovCloud environments.
Define and refine the core system abstractions that allow the platform to handle structurally diverse and often conflicting enterprise requirements in a generalized way rather than through one-off customer accommodations.
Retrofit a live production system toward a multi-tenant organizational structure by designing safe migration paths, sequencing delivery incrementally, and maintaining continuity for existing customers as the architecture transforms.
Deliver meaningful customer value each quarter while advancing toward the complete solution, requiring product judgment, direct engagement with enterprise customers, and discipline in breaking down a complex problem space into clean incremental pieces.
Drive execution across engineering squads outside your direct management through technical clarity and credibility rather than organizational authority.
Collaborate with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to translate the long-term enterprise structure vision into phased, deliverable work.
Establish and maintain technical standards for the group by defining patterns others build upon, shaping architecture across teams, and modeling engineering excellence.

Requirements

At least 10 years of deep backend engineering experience with a demonstrated track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives in fast-paced, product-focused environments.
Proven experience designing platform abstractions that absorbed messy, conflicting enterprise requirements across diverse customer bases, prioritizing general solutions over single-customer requests.
Documented success shipping work in stages, moving large structurally complex problems forward incrementally where each phase is independently valuable without overshooting what customers and the product can absorb.
Experience operating effectively across squads and teams you do not directly manage, building alignment through technical clarity and credibility.
Deep familiarity with enterprise architectural patterns including tenancy models, role-based access control, data isolation, scoped permissions, cross-tenant operations, and access boundary design.
Strong communication skills enabling you to make complex systems understandable to engineering leadership, product partners, and customer-facing stakeholders both in writing and verbally.
Data residency or GovCloud exposure is a plus; openness to learning and applying AI tools responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
