Role overview

UniversalAGI is building foundation AI models that learn physics directly from data to transform engineering simulation—a field where traditional tools still rely on decades-old numerical methods. As a founding Aerospace Simulation Engineer, you will work hands-on with the CEO and founding team to develop AI models that accelerate aerodynamics and thermal simulations across the full aerospace flow spectrum, from subsonic to hypersonic regimes.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, preprocess, mesh, and post-process aerodynamics and thermal simulations for aerospace configurations at scale and speed.
  • Create systematic approaches to design, mesh, and simulate hundreds or thousands of configurations across different flow regimes, building data pipelines that train the foundation models.
  • Work directly with the AI research team on physics simulation problems, bridging traditional computational fluid dynamics with machine learning methodologies.
  • Collaborate with clients to solve their problems, define benchmark datasets, establish validation criteria, and develop workflows that demonstrate AI model accuracy against traditional simulation.
  • Advise the AI research team on critical aerospace CFD concepts including compressible and incompressible flow, turbulence modeling, conjugate heat transfer, shock interactions, and mesh design tradeoffs.
  • Lead technical conversations with customers and internal teams, translating between aerospace CFD and AI domains.
  • Generate high-quality simulation data at scale, where each simulation directly improves the foundation models.

Requirements

  • Three to five or more years of hands-on industry experience running aerospace CFD simulations, including preprocessing, simulation, post-processing, and design iteration.
  • Strong proficiency with Star-CCM+ and OpenFOAM as primary solvers.
  • Demonstrated experience across the full flow regime spectrum: subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flows.
  • Solid background in heat transfer, thermal analysis and modeling, and conjugate heat transfer.
  • Deep understanding of fluid mechanics, compressible and incompressible flow, meshing, boundary conditions, and numerical methods.
  • Strong communication skills capable of bridging customers, engineering, and research teams, with exceptional execution velocity and attention to detail.
  • Comfort working in high-intensity, fast-paced startup environments with evolving priorities and tight deadlines.

What makes this role worth considering

You will work in-person five days a week in San Francisco with a 25-person team of researchers and engineers backed by prominent investors and advisors including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Databricks founder Ion Stoica, and Turing Award winner David Patterson. This is a founding role offering significant equity upside alongside competitive compensation, direct influence over company strategy, and the opportunity to solve industrial problems with immediate real-world impact across defense and Fortune 500 organizations already deploying the technology.
