Role overview
Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial innovator serving over 4 million Canadians, is seeking an Associate for its Options Clearing team within Brokerage Operations. This role focuses on the complete lifecycle of options management—reconciliations, settlements, exercises, assignments, and expirations—ensuring accuracy and protecting client assets across billions of dollars in daily transactions.
Key responsibilities
- Execute daily reconciliation, settlement, and expiration processing across the options book, identifying and resolving data breaks before they impact clients.
- Serve as the team’s subject matter expert on OCC and CDCC clearing procedures, including SOLA, exercises, assignments, and institutional options transfers.
- Collaborate with the Trade Desk, engineering, and operations teams to identify and resolve trade and position discrepancies while reducing operational risk.
- Analyze large datasets using pivot tables, lookups, and SQL queries to uncover inefficiencies and implement solutions.
- Design and enhance tools and workflows that enable the team to scale alongside growing options volume.
- Develop back-office processes that increase operational efficiency and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in back-office reconciliations, settlements, or options clearing at a broker-dealer or registered investment dealer.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large datasets, identify discrepancies in position data, and explain root causes.
- Working knowledge of SQL or strong ability to learn it quickly, as daily data queries are part of the role.
- Availability to support early and late hours on a rotating basis during market events and settlement cycles.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across trading, product, and operations teams.
- Detail-oriented approach with the ability to maintain accuracy against tight, non-negotiable deadlines.
- Willingness to escalate issues early when needed and natural curiosity about how systems and markets work.
