Role overview

As an Engineering Manager on the Financial Intelligence (FINT) team within FinHub’s Platform group at Coinbase, you will lead engineers building the account and transaction history infrastructure that supports all Coinbase products. You’ll guide your team through re-architecting foundational systems to handle the next decade of scale while enabling new financial products like sub-accounts, retirement accounts, and agentic trading experiences.

Key responsibilities

Lead and develop a team of six engineers across multiple levels, providing coaching on technical excellence, career growth, and organizational impact.
Drive the re-architecture of core account and history systems to support new product primitives and increased throughput as Coinbase scales.
Own the FinHub Tools roadmap by building internal user interfaces, dashboards, and agentic workflows that help engineering and operations teams work more efficiently.
Make architectural decisions across distributed systems, streaming pipelines, and full-stack tooling while fostering a culture of high-quality code and thorough design reviews.
Work with product, finance, and engineering leadership to define and execute a quarterly roadmap, breaking complex infrastructure projects into iterative, shippable milestones.
Partner with talent organizations to recruit exceptional engineers and own engineering quality processes including service level agreement accountability, incident response, and on-call practices.

Requirements

Seven or more years of software engineering experience with at least two years in an engineering management role, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
Proven experience delivering and operating distributed systems at scale in production, with the ability to review code, lead incidents, and triage issues when necessary.
Demonstrated success translating ambiguous, long-horizon technical problems into concrete execution plans with measurable milestones.
Experience with financial systems, event-driven architectures, or high-precision transaction processing where correctness and reliability are essential.
Comfort leading teams with diverse scope including backend services, streaming pipelines, and full-stack tooling, with an appreciation for developer and operator user experience.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
