Role overview

Halter is transforming livestock farming through innovative grazing technology that eliminates the need for traditional fencing, quad bikes, and dogs. As a Failure Analysis Technician, you’ll be central to ensuring Halter collars meet their demanding 6–10 year lifespan requirement by investigating field failures and extracting the evidence that drives product improvements. Your work directly supports farmers and graziers worldwide who depend on this equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Receive returned collars from the field and perform comprehensive incoming inspection and triage to determine their disposition.
  • Classify units into the correct category and close out common documented failure modes following established procedures.
  • Execute controlled teardown of standard unit types while preserving all evidence, recording findings, taking photographs, and capturing measurements in the Failure Analysis system.
  • Build, wire, and configure test setups to replicate failures, then run tests and document results.
  • Package, document, and ship samples to external laboratories as required.
  • Hand over novel or complex failures to Failure Analysis Engineers as complete, well-organized evidence packages ready for further investigation.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in a lab, workshop, production environment, or field service setting; an electronics, mechatronics, or engineering background is preferred.
  • Practical skills with electrical test equipment such as multimeters and power supplies, plus basic soldering and wiring capability.
  • Strong commitment to accuracy and process discipline, with a track record of following procedures precisely, recording data correctly, and raising concerns proactively.
  • Natural organizational ability and motivation to build systems that maintain order and structure rather than reactive tidying.
  • Ownership mindset and bias for action—you identify what needs doing and take initiative without waiting for direction.
  • Clear, honest communication skills and comfort working collaboratively with engineers, asking clarifying questions when needed.
  • Genuine curiosity about how the product works and why specific debugging approaches are used, coupled with consistency to maintain high standards over time.
