Role overview

Scale is seeking a Field Engineer to support federal AI projects across the public sector. In this role, you’ll work directly with government customers to ensure successful adoption of Scale’s data pipeline and AI technology platform. You’ll bridge the gap between customer needs and Scale’s product and engineering teams, helping agencies build production-grade systems for managing data at scale.

Key responsibilities

Build and deploy end-to-end data integrations that move customer data to and from Scale’s platform.
Collaborate with customer engineering teams to optimize data pipelines and provide guidance on API endpoint design and data schemas.
Create and maintain technical playbooks, internal tools, documentation, and SDKs to support long-term customer success.
Work with engineers and operations teams to resolve technical issues, debug delivery problems, and handle customer escalations.
Develop deep expertise in large language models, 2D image annotation, and API integration patterns relevant to customer use cases.
Partner with Account Executives and Product Managers to identify and advocate for customer-specific feature requests.
Represent Scale at customer events and engage with government stakeholders.

Requirements

Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance required.
Proven experience as a customer-facing engineer or in a hybrid customer-engineering role.
Hands-on development experience with Python, JavaScript, or other modern programming languages.
Strong engineering background, ideally in computer science, mathematics, or a quantitative field.
Demonstrated project management and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both executives and technical teams.
Intellectual curiosity, empathy, and comfort working across internal and external organizations in fast-moving environments.
