Role overview
BRKZ is a construction-technology startup in Saudi Arabia that operates a digital platform connecting contractors with building-material suppliers. As Financial Controller, you will own all accounting, audit, and financial reporting functions for this rapidly scaling company. This is a hands-on position requiring direct involvement in establishing financial processes, strengthening controls, and developing the finance team rather than a high-level advisory role.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the complete accounting function including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, accruals, reconciliations, payroll accounting, and monthly closing processes.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing cycles to ensure financial statements are timely, accurate, and complete.
- Prepare and review management reports, financial statements, and reporting packages for internal leadership, investors, banks, auditors, and other stakeholders.
- Take full ownership of the external audit process, including audit schedule preparation, auditor coordination, resolution of audit findings, and timely delivery of audited statements.
- Ensure compliance with all Saudi regulatory requirements including tax, zakat, VAT, withholding tax, e-invoicing, and accounting standards.
- Strengthen internal controls across finance, procurement, payments, collections, revenue recognition, inventory, and expense management.
- Build and scale finance processes, policies, approval workflows, and reporting structures appropriate for a high-growth startup environment.
- Work with business, operations, credit, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure accurate financial data and proper account reflection.
- Monitor receivables, payables, collections, working capital, and cash positions while supporting budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Identify gaps in systems, controls, and processes and take direct ownership of resolution.
- Build, manage, and develop the accounting and finance operations team as the company expands.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Financial Controller.
- Deep knowledge of Saudi accounting standards, tax, zakat, VAT, audit, and compliance requirements.
- Strong technical accounting skills and demonstrated ability to prepare accurate financial statements.
- End-to-end experience owning accounting, audit, and reporting functions.
- Professional certifications such as SOCPA, CPA, ACCA, or CMA are preferred.
- Prior experience in startup, scale-up, marketplace, fintech, construction, contracting, or building-materials businesses is highly preferred; construction-sector experience is a strong plus.
- Fluency in both Arabic and English.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting or ERP systems.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, combined with strong attention to detail and ownership mindset.
- Comfort working directly on details and execution, not only managing or reviewing others’ work.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
