Role overview

Scale AI is seeking a Frontier Agent Engineering Manager to serve as the technical lead between the company’s AI platform and enterprise customers. In this management role based in San Francisco, you will combine deep engineering expertise with leadership responsibilities, working directly with strategic customers to integrate AI solutions into their production environments and critical workflows.

Key responsibilities

Partner with enterprise customers to understand their technical infrastructure, data pipelines, and business requirements, then design and implement custom integrations between Scale AI’s platform and their data environments.
Build data connectors and ETL pipelines that ingest, process, and prepare customer data for AI workflows while respecting security and compliance boundaries.
Develop production-grade AI agents tailored to customer use cases in areas such as customer support, data analysis, content generation, and workflow automation.
Create prompt engineering strategies optimized for customer-specific domains, build prompt libraries and templates, and conduct systematic experimentation to improve model outputs.
Lead a team collaborating with customer data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers to ensure successful integration and smooth deployment.
Debug complex technical issues across data pipelines and model outputs, rapidly prototype solutions, and translate customer needs into product improvements.
Document technical architectures, integration patterns, and best practices while staying current on the latest AI and ML research and tools.

Requirements

5 or more years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years of management experience, demonstrating strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
Production-level expertise in Python and modern ML/AI frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, HuggingFace, or OpenAI API.
Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with modern data infrastructure.
Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to navigate ambiguous requirements and rapidly iterate toward solutions.
Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
