Prairie Mountain Health is looking to hire a Home Care Attendant to provide direct client care and support within their Home Care Program.

Position Summary

The Home Care Attendant provides direct client care and environmental support within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The role involves assisting clients in maintaining optimum health and independence for as long as safely possible within their own home environment.

Job Responsibilities

The selected Home Care Attendant will be responsible for:

  • Demonstrating respect for client independence, dignity, privacy, and lifestyle at all times
  • Supporting clients’ independence in activities of daily living, as assessed by the Case Coordinator
  • Following standards for safety and sanitation, including hand washing guidelines, and reporting any knowledge or skill gaps to the Supervisor
  • Performing additional tasks with proper training, in accordance with medication and treatment assignment policies (PPG-00819)
  • Effectively using electronic programs as part of daily duties
  • Handling communication functions (mail, email, photocopying, faxing, telephone) in line with privacy laws (PHIA and Privacy Act)
  • Assisting with meal preparation according to the Canada Food Guide or client-specific diet requirements
  • Organizing daily work according to each client’s needs and assigned service requests
  • Reporting any changes in client status or home environment to the Supervisor or Case Coordinator, following relevant observation reporting policies
  • Reporting incidents immediately and logging them in the Incident Reporting System
  • Participating in staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service training programs
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Home Care Attendant Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized Health Care Aide program
  • Other combinations of suitable education and experience may be considered
  • Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent from province of residence), and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet applications, and other IT tools
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in techniques and procedures
  • Solid knowledge and competence in skills related to the position
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, clients, and the interdisciplinary team

Working Conditions

  • Community/home-based care setting within Prairie Mountain Health
  • Requires travel between client homes using a personal vehicle
  • Involves working closely with an interdisciplinary healthcare team
