Lunar Lander Test Bench Development Senior Engineer
Role overview
The Exploration Company is developing next-generation space transportation systems, including a lunar lander designed for precision landing and reusable operations. As a Lunar Lander Test Bench Development Senior Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of a dedicated remote test facility in the United Arab Emirates. This facility will conduct hot-fire propulsion testing and hopper flight demonstrations, combining propulsion test infrastructure design, cryogenic fluid systems engineering, civil infrastructure coordination, and end-to-end project execution in a remote environment.
Key responsibilities
- Define and synthesize system-level requirements for a remote lunar lander test site that supports hot firing and hopper flight testing operations.
- Lead the complete design and implementation of the facility, including ground infrastructure, utilities, propellant systems for Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Methane, and pressurization systems using Helium and Nitrogen.
- Develop P&IDs for propulsion test facilities and ground support equipment, then design, size, and select components for cryogenic and high-pressure fluid systems.
- Define facility layout, foundations, structural interfaces, and coordinate with civil engineering partners to implement test stands, safety perimeters, and support buildings.
- Define and implement automation architectures for test operations and facility control, develop safety-critical systems, and perform hazard analyses including FMEA, HAZOP, and risk assessments.
- Develop test procedures, operational concepts, and commissioning plans while managing technical interfaces with internal teams, customers, and external suppliers.
- Support on-site deployment, integration, and test campaigns in the UAE, performing trade-off analyses to optimize performance, safety, cost, and schedule.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, energy systems, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in propulsion test facilities or hot-fire test bench development.
- Strong expertise in fluid systems engineering with demonstrated knowledge of cryogenic propellants.
- Experience designing or operating ground support equipment for rocket propulsion systems.
- Knowledge of automation systems and safety-critical control architectures for industrial or test environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects across multidisciplinary engineering activities with experience coordinating infrastructure or facility development in industrial or remote environments.
- Hands-on engineering mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills, plus willingness to travel periodically to the United Arab Emirates.
What makes this role worth considering
You will join a company that operates with agility, making decisions quickly while maintaining focus on goals and systems. The organization emphasizes open collaboration, transparency about risks and obstacles, and a shared sense of purpose in democratizing space. This is a rare opportunity to lead a significant infrastructure project from concept through operational deployment in a growing space technology company.
