Role overview

Hootsuite is looking for a Revenue Accounting Manager to join its Global Controllership team in Canada. You will own the end-to-end revenue recognition function, reporting to the Director of Corporate Accounting and working across Sales, Revenue Operations, Legal, and Financial Planning & Analysis to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

Lead the monthly revenue close process, preparing and reviewing journal entries for subscription, usage-based, and professional services revenue under ASC 606.
Perform and review standalone selling price analysis, oversee the SSP framework, and manage allocation methodology for multi-element arrangements.
Evaluate non-standard customer contracts in collaboration with Legal and Contract Operations, assess revenue impact, and document technical accounting positions.
Partner with Billing and Order-to-Cash teams to maintain data integrity across Salesforce, Nue, Zuora, and NetSuite systems.
Support external audit procedures as the primary contact for revenue-related requests and coordinate responses to auditor inquiries.
Develop and maintain the company’s Revenue Recognition Policy, updating it as new deal structures or business models emerge.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives in revenue accounting processes, controls, and system automation, and deliver training on revenue recognition practices to Sales and other departments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a CPA designation required.
At least eight years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of two years in revenue accounting within a SaaS or technology company.
Deep knowledge of ASC 606 and its application to complex SaaS arrangements, including multi-element contracts, variable consideration, and contract modifications.
Proficiency with NetSuite or a comparable ERP system; hands-on experience with Zuora, Salesforce CPQ, or similar billing platforms is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to write technical accounting memos and communicate accounting positions to external auditors.
Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and capability to manage multiple competing month-end deadlines.
Solid knowledge of internal controls and best practice accounting processes, with strong problem-solving and influencing abilities.
