Role overview

Geotab is a global leader in IoT and connected transportation, processing billions of data points daily to help businesses manage fleets and improve safety. As a Senior Data Platform Developer, you will support and expand Geotab’s big data infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring data is continuously available for the data science team and developing new methodologies to process telematics data at scale.

Key responsibilities

Develop and maintain data infrastructure platforms that handle ingestion, digestion, and stream processing of Geotab’s internal data lake.
Create processes to enrich Geotab’s big data with telematics information at scale.
Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting services to maintain the health and reliability of the big data infrastructure.
Collaborate with data scientists to understand their data processing requirements and build infrastructure solutions that support their work.
Create and maintain documentation for system architecture, requirements, and process flows.
Assist internal Geotab teams with integrating their data into the newly developed big data platforms.
Participate in a 24×7 on-call rotating schedule if applicable.

Requirements

Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
One to five years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.
One to five years of experience developing production-level systems using Java and the Spring framework.
One to three years of experience designing, building, and maintaining production-level application containerization such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
Knowledge of data management fundamentals, data storage principles, batch and streaming data architectures, and API design and implementation.
Familiarity with big data environments such as Google BigQuery.
Strong communication skills, analytical abilities, organizational capacity to manage multiple projects, and collaborative mindset across all organizational levels.
