Role overview
Volcano is a cloud platform designed for applications built with coding agents, enabling developers to specify what they want and have the system automatically set up databases, authentication, functions, storage, and deployment without manual dashboard work. As a Senior Developer Advocate for Volcano, you’ll bridge the gap between the engineering team and the developer community, demonstrating the platform’s capabilities while gathering feedback to drive product improvements. Volcano is a small, independently operating company incubated by Kong that launched publicly in September 2026.
Key responsibilities
- Own and develop the Volcano Cookbook, a collection of recipes that demonstrate how to build real applications on Volcano using tools developers already know, complete with code, decision-making processes, and practical gotchas.
- Create deployable templates and examples that developers can set up and run with minimal steps.
- Produce video content for multiple platforms including YouTube, livestreams, and short-form demos.
- Organize and run Volcano hackathons, evaluate participation in external hackathons, and determine which sponsorships align with the company’s goals.
- Collaborate with partners whose tools are featured in recipes on creating joint content and educational materials.
- Actively engage in developer communities including Discord, X, and GitHub, listening to questions and concerns and relaying insights back to the team.
- Build tools and workflows that help the small team publish more content while maintaining quality standards.
- Serve as an early user of Volcano, identifying rough edges and usability issues before they reach broader audiences and providing actionable reports to engineers.
Requirements
- A demonstrated track record of building and shipping things in public within the last year, with examples you can share and evidence of how you communicated these projects.
- Experience with 0-to-1 work, such as founding a company, joining one at an early stage, or launching a product from scratch.
- Technical proficiency with coding agents, with the ability to build working applications using Claude Code or similar tools, debug issues when they arise, and articulate what went wrong.
- Strong writing skills and experience using AI tools effectively in your own workflow, with the judgment to recognize when AI-generated output lacks quality.
- Comfort with public communication in various formats, whether speaking to groups, presenting on camera, or engaging in written discussions.
- A reputation among engineering teams for accuracy and trustworthiness in technical matters.
What makes this role worth considering
You’ll join a small, focused team at the forefront of agent-driven development, working on a platform designed from the ground up with AI-assisted coding in mind rather than retrofitted to support it. This role offers the opportunity to shape how developers understand and adopt emerging technologies while directly influencing the product roadmap based on real-world developer feedback.
