Role overview

Lightspeed is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Onboarding team in Auckland. The role focuses on helping retailers of all sizes—from single-store merchants to multi-location operations managing thousands of products—get set up and selling on the Lightspeed platform quickly and effectively. You’ll lead design initiatives that reduce complexity, minimize manual effort, and help new merchants reach key milestones in their first month.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead design work on projects with full autonomy, facilitating design reviews and working sessions to ensure teams deliver optimal solutions.
  • Transform complex workflows and abstract concepts into clear, user-friendly customer journeys and interfaces that integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
  • Apply expertise in design systems, UI design, and micro-interactions to create simple, elegant interfaces that guide users through tasks effectively.
  • Leverage research insights and data to inform design decisions and advocate for user needs when collaborating with product, engineering, and marketing teams.
  • Explore and integrate emerging technologies, including AI, to develop innovative approaches to onboarding challenges.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and consistency of the design system across platforms.
  • Serve as a culture carrier within the design studio and design advocate across the broader Lightspeed organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of in-house product, UX, or UI design experience.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to guide stakeholders through the design process and present work clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to design across digital and physical experiences, including responsive web, native applications, and emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency with design and collaboration tools including Figma, Google Suite, JIRA, and AI prototyping tools.
  • Solid visual design skills capable of elevating brand identity.
  • Deep empathy for both customers and team goals, combined with strong self-awareness and commitment to user-centered design.
  • Strategic thinking about product vision and purpose, not just execution.

What makes this role worth considering

You’ll work from a newly renovated office in Auckland’s Newmarket area with genuine flexibility, including the option to work remotely from anywhere for up to 60 days annually. The role offers meaningful impact through helping merchants grow their businesses while working on high-traffic products used by a global audience. You’ll collaborate with skilled engineers and designers in an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives, with opportunities for real career growth within an expanding company.
