Senior Product Designer, Capital Advances
Role overview
Lightspeed is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Capital Advances team, which builds the systems that power Lightspeed Capital. This role spans both internal tools used by underwriting and operations teams, as well as merchant-facing experiences, blending complex operational workflows with high-stakes user interactions. You will help transform slow, manual processes into fast, largely automated solutions through iterative design and delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design work on projects with autonomy, facilitating design reviews and working sessions to help teams deliver optimal solutions.
- Work with ambiguity to turn abstract concepts into specific, useful product features that support the vision of automating business operations with AI.
- Integrate AI into your design practice by synthesizing complex data into problem-space insights, using agentic workflows to build prototypes rapidly, and shaping prompts and instructions for production experiences.
- Design holistic systems, flows, and interfaces across internal tooling and merchant-facing surfaces while maintaining coherence between them.
- Draw insights from research and data to inform solutions, learn the workflows of both underwriting teams and merchants, and advocate for their needs in cross-functional collaboration.
- Work closely with product and engineering partners in a tight collaborative trio, creating artifacts that facilitate alignment sessions across product, design, engineering, risk, and operations teams.
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment with clear communication about design work and rationale to internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of in-house product, UX/UI design experience, ideally including 0-to-1 product development.
- Proven track record designing complex, workflow-heavy products such as internal tools, admin consoles, case management systems, or operational platforms where users are performing work.
- Experience working in constrained domains such as financial services, lending, risk, payments, or compliance-heavy environments where policy shapes the design space.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience applying AI in your design practice, with concrete examples of agentic workflows built or used for research synthesis, prototyping, or production contribution and their measurable impact.
- Deep commitment to design quality, balancing problem-solution fit with craft (consistency, accessibility, and performance) while validating the reasoning behind designs.
- Excellent communication skills capable of bringing internal stakeholders along on the design journey with focus and clarity.
- Comfort working in agile product development processes and collaborating effectively in fast-paced teams.
