Senior Research Engineer – Safety Tooling and Data
Role overview
Cohere is a leading enterprise AI company that builds foundation models and end-to-end products for real-world business applications. As a Senior Research Engineer on the Safety and Trust team, you will develop tools and infrastructure to enable data synthesis, analysis, and management for model training and evaluation, helping create safer and more reliable AI systems.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement robust data pipeline tooling that enables frequent, low-friction generation and annotation of data.
- Create cohesive data infrastructure that supports continuous parallel operation alongside model experimentation.
- Establish standardized processes for data validation and analysis to improve both training and evaluation datasets.
- Collaborate with the ML modeling team to ensure data capabilities align with experimental requirements and objectives.
- Maintain well-documented, opinionated solutions that establish team standards for data handling and architecture.
- Develop systematic analysis frameworks to identify incoming data sources and identify gaps in data coverage.
Requirements
- Extremely strong software engineering skills with demonstrated ability to own complex technical projects from conception through deployment.
- Strong statistical knowledge and experience evaluating scientific experiments related to data collection and model performance.
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, along with experience in big data analytics tools like BigQuery and SQL.
- Opinionated approach to technical architecture with the ability to make principled decisions about where to apply engineering rigor versus pragmatism.
- Understanding of ML data requirements and how data engineering intersects with modeling workflows.
What makes this role worth considering
