Role overview

Join Coinbase’s Advanced Trading team as a Senior Software Engineer on the Backend team, where you’ll design and deliver high-performance backend services for trading products used by customers globally. You’ll take ownership of complex projects from initial concept through production, working on social features, asset discovery, and real-time notifications that drive user engagement across multiple asset classes.

Key responsibilities

Own the end-to-end design, development, and reliability of high-performance backend services using Golang and gRPC to enable seamless trading experiences worldwide.
Lead rapid experimentation and optimization of conversion funnels for key trading journeys, using data insights to identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities.
Drive accelerated time to market for new features by making thoughtful system design trade-offs that balance performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Champion software engineering best practices across design, coding, testing, documentation, monitoring, and alerting to raise the team’s technical standards.
Partner cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and designers across multiple time zones to translate product vision into quarterly roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

Requirements

Five or more years of professional backend software engineering experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production systems.
Significant hands-on experience with Golang and gRPC in high-throughput production environments.
Proven track record designing scalable service architectures and making system design trade-offs across performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure tools such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Datadog, plus working knowledge of event-driven architectures like Kafka or message queues.
Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases, third-party API integrations, and modern development practices including GraphQL and ETL pipelines.
Demonstrated ability to take on ambiguous, multi-quarter projects from concept to production with minimal guidance and sound technical judgment.
Ability to utilize generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.
