Role overview

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Core Infra Systems team within the Platform group. In this role, you’ll design and maintain the cloud and networking foundations that enable Coinbase engineers to build and operate services at scale. You’ll work on standardizing infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, building self-service tooling, and establishing strong security and reliability defaults across the organization.

Key responsibilities

Own infrastructure initiatives spanning AWS, GCP, and networking domains, driving alignment on standards and operational patterns across the organization.
Build and maintain self-service tooling and paved-road defaults that allow product teams to safely provision and operate cloud infrastructure without requiring deep platform expertise.
Collaborate with Compute, Infra Security, and Routing teams to embed security and reliability guardrails into infrastructure provisioning workflows.
Lead standardization efforts across Coinbase’s multi-cloud environment to reduce fragmentation and improve consistency in how teams consume cloud resources.
Conduct technical investigations and drive operational improvements across infrastructure boundaries, working with stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and scale foundational systems.

Requirements

At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years of hands-on work building and operating production cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP.
Hands-on experience with cloud networking primitives including VPCs, transit gateways, DNS, and load balancers, plus proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go or Python for building platform tooling and automation at scale.
Demonstrated ability to drive cross-team technical initiatives, partnering across multiple infrastructure domains to deliver production-ready outcomes.
Experience using generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency and quality.
