Role overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on Coinbase’s Core Reliability team, you will lead infrastructure projects that enhance the reliability, security, and safety of production systems serving thousands of services. This role focuses on scaling Coinbase’s platform to support significant growth while reducing customer-facing incidents and operational complexity.

Key responsibilities

Design and deliver reliability projects and features that improve system resilience across the production environment, working collaboratively with other engineering teams.
Partner with critical services to understand their architecture, improve scalability, and reduce the operational burden on engineering teams.
Build and enhance systems that manage service configurations and secrets securely at scale.
Improve canary-based deployment systems and expand deployment infrastructure to support thousands of services and hundreds of daily releases while minimizing incidents.
Establish and promote reliability best practices and strengthen reliability culture across the engineering organization.

Requirements

At least 5 years of software engineering experience designing, building, and maintaining production services within service-oriented architectures.
Proficiency with Ruby, Go, Terraform, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Demonstrated ability to design and operate reliable, high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems at scale, with a track record of writing well-tested, production-quality code.
Experience using observability and monitoring tools such as Kibana or Datadog to debug production issues, optimize system performance, and reduce incident frequency.
Strong communication skills for articulating architecture decisions to cross-functional engineering stakeholders.
Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond to issues outside standard business hours.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency.
