Software Engineer
Role overview
Flow is reimagining residential and commercial spaces through technology, operating condominiums, hotels, multifamily residences, and office spaces with a focus on creating connected communities. As a Software Engineer on the Engineering team, you’ll build high-impact software that directly serves operators, residents, and business leaders, working embedded with cross-functional teams to translate operational challenges into elegant, intelligent solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Build practical software solutions that address real operational friction experienced by neighbors and building operators.
- Work directly with end users and cross-functional teams to deeply understand their needs and translate those into product and engineering decisions.
- Move across the full technology stack—backend, frontend, data, infrastructure, automation, and AI—as problems require.
- Contribute to AI-powered products and intelligent workflows that improve how work gets done and how residents experience their living spaces.
- Own problems end-to-end, from scoping opportunities and making architectural decisions to running experiments and shipping solutions to production.
- Use AI development tools like Claude Code and Cursor as force multipliers, supported by clear written communication and documentation.
- Challenge assumptions about how work should be done and shape how AI and engineering practices can transform execution across the business.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals and willingness to work across the full stack rather than specializing in a single area.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, expand into unfamiliar territory, and treat your own skill set as something to continuously build rather than protect.
- Genuine AI-native experience: comfort using AI coding assistants as core development tools, with strong written communication skills to support effective prompting and documentation.
- Critical thinking, independent work style, and the ability to own problems completely from inception through delivery.
- Curiosity about real-world impact and genuine interest in shipping tools that support actual operations and outcomes, not just demos.
- Comfort with building and iterating quickly while maintaining engineering rigor and quality standards.
What makes this role worth considering
This is an opportunity to shape how technology transforms day-to-day operations in physical environments where software directly impacts real teams and residents. You’ll work with significant autonomy, operate at a fast pace powered by modern engineering practices and AI assistance, and be part of a team that values both velocity and quality. The role is based in New York, NY, with an in-office requirement.
