Role overview

WHOOP is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Business Systems team in Boston, MA. In this role, you will design and implement backend systems that power WHOOP’s internal operations, supporting Finance, Operations, Member Services, and other business functions. You’ll build reliable, secure, and performant systems that enable the organization to scale globally and deliver value to members.

Key responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that support business-critical systems and integrations across the organization.
Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines, automation, and workflows that enhance operational efficiency.
Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, and internal business teams to understand requirements and develop effective technical solutions.
Write high-quality, testable, and well-documented code that contributes meaningfully to the team’s codebase.
Identify system bottlenecks and implement improvements to the performance, reliability, and maintainability of backend systems.
Contribute to the long-term technical strategy for Business Systems and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Participate in code reviews and mentor junior engineers to foster a culture of engineering excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
At least two years of backend software development experience with a strong foundation in computer science principles.
Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language such as Java, Python, Go, or similar.
Experience building and maintaining APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
Solid understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and query optimization.
Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure including AWS, GCP, or Azure and distributed systems.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated commitment to using AI tools in daily work while maintaining high-quality standards.
