Role overview

WHOOP is seeking a Software Engineer II to develop backend systems that power our platform and support millions of members worldwide. You will build scalable, secure infrastructure while working on either product security or application infrastructure initiatives, depending on your background and interests.

Key responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable backend systems that form the foundation of WHOOP’s core infrastructure and member experience.
Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, frontend developers, and cross-functional partners to deliver features that increase member engagement.
Build and maintain APIs that enable seamless integration with frontend applications and third-party services.
Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance through testing, monitoring, and optimization efforts.
Implement secure coding practices and contribute to designing systems that protect member data.
Stay current with backend technologies and help improve team engineering standards and best practices.

Requirements

Two to four years of backend software development experience, ideally using Java, Python, or C#.
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
Exposure to event-driven architecture using messaging or streaming technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Familiarity with database design and management using relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL, or NoSQL alternatives.
Understanding of cloud infrastructure platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate across different teams.
