Role overview
Jobber is seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead the Foundations team, which oversees the design systems, patterns, and surfaces that enable consistent, high-quality experiences across the product. The company helps small home service businesses—plumbers, electricians, painters, landscapers—manage their operations through tools for quoting, scheduling, invoicing, and payment collection. This leadership role will shape and evolve Jobber’s design system across multiple platforms while establishing new approaches for integrating AI into design and development workflows.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design system initiatives to create scalable component systems and product-level interaction patterns across multiple platforms.
- Serve as steward of Jobber’s brand and experience principles, fostering thoughtful visual and interaction design standards throughout the company.
- Identify gaps in the design system and drive proactive solutions that improve consistency, usability, and UX quality at scale.
- Define and evolve governance models, contribution processes, and best practices for the design system.
- Partner with Engineering leaders to enhance implementation quality and improve how design system best practices integrate into AI-backed design and development tools.
- Collaborate regularly with product teams to support system adoption, share best practices, and gather insights to inform system evolution.
- Lead UX quality initiatives and roadmap planning to improve visual design, interaction design, accessibility, usability, and performance.
- Mentor colleagues to build a culture of collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- A portfolio demonstrating design craft, systems thinking, and measurable impact on product quality or team efficiency.
- Five to ten years of experience designing and evolving design systems, including major initiatives such as system redesigns or new product creation.
- A proven track record of leading complex projects or initiatives that improved design consistency and quality across an organization.
- Deep expertise in interaction design, UI patterns, and visual design.
- Deep understanding of accessibility standards across platforms and strong technical literacy with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and frameworks like React.
- Strong expertise with Figma, including components, tokens, auto-layout, and prototyping, along with the ability to collaborate closely with engineers and understand how design translates to code.
- Strong opinions about the evolving AI design landscape, including how people design, prototype, share patterns, and document work, with a demonstrated ability to make effective decisions that scale across organizations while balancing flexibility with standardization.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally across an organization, build alignment with senior leaders, and inform strategy.
