Role overview

Scale is hiring Applied AI Engineers for its rapidly expanding Global Public Sector team, which develops AI solutions to address critical challenges facing governments worldwide. You will design and build custom end-to-end AI applications for public sector clients, working on projects that impact millions of citizens through cutting-edge technology, high-quality training data generation, and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

Work directly with public sector clients to understand their operational challenges and define AI-driven solutions tailored to their needs.
Build and deploy complete AI applications to production using the latest advances in AI from major research labs and open-source models.
Collaborate with data annotation specialists and cross-functional teams to create and curate high-quality training datasets.
Design and maintain evaluation frameworks that assess the reliability and performance of AI models in real-world applications.
Travel occasionally to engage with clients and stakeholders, approximately two weeks per quarter.
Share knowledge and contribute to scaling AI adoption across the public sector through hands-on mentoring and technical guidance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating comparable expertise.
At least seven years of post-graduation engineering experience with proven proficiency in Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, or C++.
Minimum two years of experience applying AI and machine learning in production environments, including deploying deep learning solutions, building generative or agentic AI applications, or establishing evaluation pipelines.
Familiarity with cloud-based machine learning platforms and tools such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong problem-solving abilities with a data-driven mindset for iterating on machine learning models and datasets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration across functional teams.
