About Flydubai Airline
Flydubai (Arabic: فلاي دبي), officially called Dubai Aviation Corporation, is a government-owned budget airline based in Dubai, UAE, with its head office and flight operations in Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport. The airline flies to 95 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe from Dubai. Its slogan is “Get Going.”
The Dubai government set up the airline in July 2008. Although flydubai isn’t part of The Emirates Group, Emirates helped support flydubai in its early days.
History of Flydubai
On 14 July 2008, flydubai signed a deal with Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show to buy 50 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, worth $3.74 billion, with the option to upgrade to the larger Boeing 737-900ER. The first plane arrived on 17 May 2009, and flights began on 1 June, starting with routes to Beirut and Amman. The airline’s network has grown a lot since then.
On 13 February 2013, flydubai said it was talking to Boeing and Airbus about ordering 50 more aircraft. Then on 19 June 2013, the airline announced it would add a Business Class service — featuring 12 seats, three-course meals, 12-inch TVs, a business lounge, Italian leather seating, over 200 movies, and universal power outlets for more than 170 countries.
